Togolese rapper and political activist Yao Bobby joins Swiss noisemaker Simon Grab in an unmissable hi-NRG power duo.
An intense sound battle arises from Bobby's explosive Ewe and French bars, fired into the bubbling carpet of fried bass pulsations that Grab summons from his analogue feedback electronics. While the lyricism addresses the aftermath of west-colonialism and its persistent grip on the continent, a rogue-dub attitude frames the ever-evolving sonic revolutions. The result is an authentic expression of experimental hip-hop, free-form rap, and rhythmic noise.
The two critically acclaimed albums "Diamonds" (2019) and "WUM" (2023) —released on Ossia's LavaLava Records— have propelled their showcases on multiple stages across Europe and Africa, with a highlight performance (masterfully video-taped by director Jan Moss) at Nyege Nyege Festival in 2022. They also count various compilation appearances under their belt on labels such as Nyege Nyege Tapes, Syrphe, and Exist Records.
In autumn 2024, the duo will be in Kampala, Uganda, for a monthly residency to finish their third full album, set for release in the first half of 2025. The release will be toured across Europe between March and April 2025. Get in touch for booking and calendar info.
